Should Guess That Album have an Instagram?

1 2
  • I don't know anything about social media. If I made an Instagram for GTA and posted album covers twice a week, does that have any chance of attracting new users?

I tried this with Facebook a while back but wasn't committed and it died out.

Getting new users primarily via word of mouth has worked OK for a while but I always feel like it could be bigger than it is.

  • I think Instagram could work, I just think you have to game the algorithm some

  • yeah include like some songs from said album so you can reach on shorts as well (i think thats how it works)

  • facebook is filled with old people and twitter is filled with bots so instagram is the place to be

  • twitter's algorithm nowadays really likes to bunch people with similar interests together. I sometimes come across album cover drawings on my timeline. I have no idea how to increase your reach tho

whenever an album cover drawing tweet blows up, I link this site in the replies, but twitter likes to shadowban off-site links

  • my dad uses instagram. post all my horniest reggie drawings on there so he knows how good of an artist I am.

  • I would be ok w my stuff being posted on a gta social media too fwiw

  • yeah that sounds great i think. you could post on tumblr too

  • instagram this twitter that we should get a tumblr

think about it. all it does is post the album covers with a link to guess them on the site and maybe a "guess that album" tag

  • I would probably do something where if I post an album, guessing it temporarily becomes worth only ten points or something, since I would be too lazy to moderate comments/replies that spoil the answer and then it could be used for point farming. Because the #1 goal is and forever shall be ensuring the integrity of the GTA leaderboards.

  • there is already a page with a similar intent to GTA -https://www.instagram.com/handdrawnalbumcovers/

with consistency you can definetly gain traction there. the real question is if the site 1. has the structure (technical but also moderationwise) for an influx of new members and 2. would benefit from an influx of new members

  • They seem like they're aiming to showcase technically good art, though. We're more comedic geniuses over here.

  • i take my furry art very seriously, i dunno what you mean by "comedic geniuses"

(i do think that gaining traction is still possible regardless, though! it just is very unlikely to be an instant thing, might need some gradual growing and adding hashtags and whatnot)

  • I for one am looking forward to the GTA instagram

  • Good point about whether the site can handle a ton of new members at once. There have been some pretty big waves of members in the past but never one that's taken the site down (as far as I know). Processing appeals after a member wave is a pain though.

I guess if the site's popularity were ever large and sustained enough, that would be a good problem? But I wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of figuring out an alternative hosting solution.
