Just found an exploit

If you normally try to give an answer you have already given on another album, it will not let you. But if you misspell the answer just enough, say one letter, and the answer you are giving is correct, it will not see it as a duplicate answer and will still give you points. I've been wondering if this could happen for a while, and it turns out it can. What kind of measures can be taken to prevent this?

That's why the rule about knowingly guessing duplicate albums exists. The fix would be to associate duplicate albums in the database, so that if you guessed one, you've in effect guessed them all. But, as I've stated before, that change is not going to be coming for a while, if ever.

I would support the idea for nulling duplicate correct guesses, but I've come across a paticular band who has at least 2 self-titled albums, which totally screws up any kind of catch the system has. So I guess I can sit with you for a while, but what would happen in a case like that when the system would be implemented?

As the user base grows and inevitably a lot of the same albums will continue to be drawn this exploit is becoming ridiculous.
Unless it is rectified you're trusting people to be honest which we all know doesn't work all that well for anonymous imageboards. As this is a game where people strive for a top spot the temptation to "cheat" is all too easy for the sake of those extra points.
I know it sounds good on paper but actually implementing it may be too time consuming for a single Administrator. Perhaps a change in the rules could be considered?

It's mostly just one user (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) or a few users who are willfully abusing their ability to correctly guess multiples of the same album, or their ability to guess an album wrongly, take note of the answer, and then get it right elsewhere. I could just ban those users.
Automatically linking duplicate albums in the database would be extremely difficult. Albums with subtitles or albums with multiple artists would never match automatically. For most albums it would work but the whole system would need to be policed. It almost seems like albums would need to be processed by an admin/mod before they could show up on the site. Part of the attractiveness of the site is being able to jump in and contribute drawings just like everybody else, and I don't want to lose that.
What I'm thinking about now is 1. a way to report users for cheating by guessing duplicate albums and 2. a way to nullify specific illegitimate guesses.GiggerNitsPosted on 8/15/2015 at 8:40 AM
I am guilty of both those crimes.

Well, you're not the worst offender. And I would rather not have to ban engaged members of the site.

This is going to be really hard to not exploit now that I know it exists. I hate how all the duplicate albums just float around clogging everything up without you being able to hide them
HelloPosted on 8/25/2015 at 11:06 AM
I think the "guess one wrong to guess a duplicate right" isn't really cheating. For those returning to the site often, it's irritable seeing all the duplicates day in and day out. This, ahem, "exploit" makes them useful in some way. I don't see it as a sin. The drawing of duplicates is a much bigger sin to me. We're just taking advantage of their laziness.
Plus, how do you know we didn't go look up the music after we got it wrong, then found it again on the site later and guessed another time? I mean, my guessing of the album and a duplicate of it within the same twenty seconds means NOTHING.wimplewinchPosted on 8/26/2015 at 1:09 AM
I agree with Hello on the duplicates. They're getting out of hand. I'm considering entering junk guesses just to get them out of sight. Could there perhaps be some kind of notification before submitting a drawing, or at least some way of hiding them without entering baloney guesses?
HelloPosted on 8/26/2015 at 2:13 AM
I've considered the same. Except a few of the drawings can be hilarious. Also congrats on 100,000!

Intentionally making a typo to score points on albums that you know you have already guessed is clearly breaking the rules and at first I did it to get rid of annoying duplicates. But duplicates are inevitable so is it ok to use this exploit??
NO
Cheating is cheating and I don't feel right doing it any further. It robs players who abide by the rules, it steals points from newer players who could be guessing the newly drawn albums instead of albums drawn months ago and are stuck at the low ebb of 50 points.
I made it into the top 10 with using this exploit, over weeks, months, now any jackoff willing to cheat can make it into the top 10 in a day.
wimplewinchPosted on 8/26/2015 at 3:56 PM
For the record I also interpret exploiting duplicate albums as cheating.
And thank you, Hello!AdminPosted on 8/27/2015 at 11:44 AM
Intentionally typoing to guess duplicate albums is 100% against the rules. It's easy to understand why people would do it though, since looking at a bunch of duplicate albums that you can't guess would be a little annoying. I'll be working on a solution.
